Appointy lets you link a resource to a service when that service requires a limited asset, room, piece of equipment, or facility to be available at the time of booking.
When a resource is linked to a service, Appointy considers the availability of that resource while determining whether the service can be booked. This helps prevent bookings when the required resource is already occupied.
A single resource can also be linked to multiple services.
What is a resource in Appointy?
A resource is a non-staff asset required to deliver a service.
Depending on your business, a resource could be:
- Treatment room
- Salon chair
- Massage room
- Consultation room
- Fitness studio
- Tennis court
- Photography studio
- Vehicle
- Machine
- Equipment
- Workstation
- Service bay
Resources are different from staff members. A staff member represents the person providing the service, while a resource represents something the service needs in order to take place.
Why link a resource to a service?
Linking resources helps Appointy account for limited capacity.
For example, suppose a spa has:
- 5 therapists
- 3 treatment rooms
Even if five therapists are available at the same time, the business can only perform three treatments that require a treatment room.
By linking the treatment rooms to the relevant services, Appointy can prevent additional bookings when the required resources are already occupied.

Example: Linking treatment rooms to massage services
Suppose a spa offers:
- Swedish Massage
- Deep Tissue Massage
- Sports Massage
All three services require a treatment room.
The business has three treatment rooms:
- Room 1
- Room 2
- Room 3
The same treatment-room resources can be linked to all three massage services.
When those rooms are already occupied by existing bookings, Appointy can restrict additional bookings for services that require them, even if a therapist is otherwise available.
This helps the business avoid overbooking its physical capacity.
Can one resource be linked to multiple services?
Yes.
A single resource can be linked to multiple services when those services share the same resource.
For example, the same consultation room could be used for several different consultation services, or the same photography studio could be used for multiple session types.
What happens when the linked resource is unavailable?
If the required linked resource is already occupied, the service may no longer be available for booking during that time.
This allows availability to reflect both:
Staff availability + required resource availability
rather than staff availability alone.
Staff vs resource: what is the difference?
| Staff | Resource |
|---|---|
| Person providing the service | Asset needed to perform the service |
| Doctor | Consultation room |
| Massage therapist | Treatment room |
| Trainer | Fitness studio |
| Technician | Service bay |
| Photographer | Studio |
| Instructor | Classroom |
A service may require both an available staff member and an available resource before the time slot can be offered.
