Service categories help you organize related services into logical groups, making a large service list easier to manage.
They also make the booking experience clearer for customers, especially when your business offers many different services.
What is a service category?
A service category is a group of related services.
For example:
- Massage → Swedish Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage
- Consultations → Initial Consultation, Follow-up Consultation
- Classes → Yoga, Pilates, Strength Training
- Lessons → Piano, Guitar, Vocal
Grouping services into categories makes it easier for both your team and customers to find the right offering.
Why organize services into categories?
Service categories are useful when you have a long service list.
They help you:
- Keep related services together
- Make the service list easier to manage
- Reduce clutter in the Service section
- Organize services using terminology that matches your business
- Move services between categories when your offerings change
- Create a category-specific booking URL so customers can view services from one category only
How to add a service to a category
Quick navigation
Settings → Service → Drag Service → Drop into Service Category
Steps
- Log in to your Appointy admin account.
- Click Settings in the toolbar on the left.
- Under Resource Management, open Service.
- Locate the service you want to move.
- A red repositioning icon appears on the right side of each service.
- Click and hold the red repositioning icon.
- Drag the service into the required category.
- Drop the service inside that category.
.
.
The service will now appear under the selected service category.
Example: Organizing a large salon service list
Suppose a salon offers:
Hair
- Haircut
- Hair Coloring
- Blow Dry
Nails
- Manicure
- Pedicure
- Nail Art
Skin
- Facial
- Cleanup
- Skin Consultation
Instead of showing all services in one long list, the business can group them into Hair, Nails, and Skin categories.
This makes the service setup easier for the business to manage and helps customers browse related services more efficiently.
Moving a service from one category to another
You can use the same drag-and-drop process to reorganize existing services.
For example, if Skin Consultation is currently under General Services but should be under Skin, drag the service from its existing category and drop it into the Skin category.
You do not need to recreate the service.
Using collapse and expand with large service lists
If you have many service categories and services, use the collapse and expand options to make drag-and-drop management easier.
.
Collapsing categories can reduce the length of the list and make it easier to move a service into the correct category.
Using a category-specific booking URL
A service category can also have its own booking URL.
This is useful when you want customers to view only the services within a particular category instead of your full service list.
For example, if your website has a page dedicated to Massage Services, you can use the booking URL for the Massage category so customers entering from that page see only the services grouped under Massage.
This creates a more focused booking flow.
