You can reorder Service Categories in Appointy Premium to control the sequence in which they appear to customers.
This is useful when you want your most important, most popular, or most relevant categories to appear first instead of displaying categories in the order they were originally created.
Why reorder Service Categories?
Reordering categories can help you:
- Put popular categories at the top
- Group related categories together
- Improve the customer booking flow
- Make a large service catalog easier to browse
- Prioritize seasonal or high-demand offerings
For example, a salon may want customers to see:
- Hair Services
- Skin Treatments
- Nail Services
- Add-ons
instead of showing the categories in the order they were added.

The new category order will then be used when the categories are displayed.
Example: Prioritizing popular categories
Suppose a wellness business has these categories:
- Consultations
- Massage
- Facials
- Add-ons
If Massage is the most commonly booked category, you can move it to the top.
The order could become:
- Massage
- Facials
- Consultations
- Add-ons
This helps customers reach the most relevant options faster.
Reordering parent and child categories
If you use parent and child category hierarchies, arrange the categories so the structure remains clear and easy to follow.
For example:
Fitness
→ Yoga
→ Pilates
→ Strength Training
Keeping related categories together makes the hierarchy easier for customers to understand.
Reordering vs changing category hierarchy
Reordering a category changes where it appears in the list.
Changing the Parent Category changes where the category belongs in the hierarchy.
For example:
- Moving Yoga above Pilates = reordering
- Moving Yoga under Fitness Classes = changing the parent category
These are two different actions.
When should you reorder categories?
Consider reordering categories when:
- Your most important categories are difficult to find
- You add a new high-priority category
- Your service catalog has grown
- You want related categories displayed together
- Your seasonal priorities change
- You want the booking journey to follow a more logical sequence
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the order of Service Categories?
Yes. You can reorder categories by dragging and dropping them into the required sequence.
Does reordering a category change the services inside it?
No. Reordering only changes the category's position. It does not change the services assigned to that category.
Does reordering change the parent-child relationship?
No. Category order and category hierarchy are separate settings.
Can I reorder child categories?
Yes. Child categories can also be arranged to create a clearer sequence within the hierarchy.
Should I place my most popular category first?
You can. Businesses often place their most commonly booked or most important categories near the top to make them easier for customers to find.
Can I reorder categories again later?
Yes. You can update the order whenever your service catalog or business priorities change.
