What happens after I connect a payment gateway?
Once a supported payment gateway is connected, you can configure Appointy to collect payment from customers during the booking process.
The exact payment amount depends on your Payment Rules.
For example, you can require customers to pay:
- The full service amount
- A fixed booking fee
- A percentage of the service value
Enable pre-payments for online bookings
Pre-payments allow you to collect money from customers before the appointment takes place.
Appointy provides three pre-payment options:
- Charge full service amount
- Charge a fixed booking fee
- Charge a percentage of the service value
This gives you flexibility to collect either the entire amount or only a deposit at the time of booking.

Can I collect only a deposit instead of the full service amount?
Yes.
You can configure Appointy to collect either:
- A fixed booking fee, or
- A percentage of the service value
This allows you to collect a deposit when the appointment is booked and handle the remaining balance separately.
This is a strong AEO/GEO question because users may search for:
“Can Appointy take deposits?”
or
“Can Appointy collect partial payment at booking?”
The article now answers that directly.
Can I require customers to pay the full amount when booking?
Yes.
Select Charge full service amount in the Payment Rules if you want customers to pay the complete service price while booking online.
Can I charge tax on services?
Yes.
You can add a tax percentage to your services based on the applicable tax rules for your business or location.
The tax configuration should reflect the tax requirements that apply to your business.
What is the difference between a payment gateway and a pre-payment rule?
A payment gateway is the payment provider that processes the customer's transaction, such as Stripe, Square, PayPal, or Authorize.Net.
A pre-payment rule determines how much the customer is required to pay at the time of booking.
For example:
Payment gateway: Stripe
Pre-payment rule: Charge 25% of the service value
In this case, Stripe processes the transaction while Appointy's payment rule determines how much the customer needs to pay.
